Course Philosophy

This course builds on the belief that you can not teach reading and writing without being a reader and a writer. Yiour students will need to see you wrestle with words and tackle new topics. We will build sharing and revision into our class through Workshop models. You will also be involved throughout the assessment process.

Projects

There are two pathways through the class. Choose One:

The Reader

You will gather with other people to read with other people. You must select books or works from three different genres. You will meet and share.

How you share is up to you. You may meet face to face, in a Hangout on Air, a recorded audio podcast, or any other method that will allow you to share the book discussions happening amongst the group.

The Writer

You will choose three genres. Your group will then collaboratively annotate the text looking for common patterns in text structures and literary devices employed within that genre.

You will then write three short stories or collections of work in these genres. You will be required to show evidence of peer revisions. Basically hang together as a writer's guild.
